While sorting through some papers that had
been in storage for at least a decade, I came across this piece that I wrote
for the Morisset Weekly News in 1999.
Sometimes we regard the Ten Commandments as
being a list of “thou-shalt-not”s. but it is not necessary to view them that
way. Here are God’s Ten “Positivements”:
- We can rejoice in worshipping Him alone
- We are blessed when we love Him with all our heart
- God wants us to feel comfortable about respecting His name
- We have His reminder to celebrate with Him the birth of His creation
- We can benefit from the privilege of the mutual respect of parents and children
- God grieves when others hurt us and wills that we treat others the way that we would wish to be treated
- God has a plan for us to have happy homes
- Because God would like us to have possessions without them being stolen He asks us to help by setting an example of honesty
- God does not want us to get hurt by telling lies, and
- God wants us to be happy and content with what we have.
